would that i were important to the publishing industry

these kinds of posts go by many names. waiting on wednesday, books to pine for, etc. for me, they are books that make me wish i worked in publishing and could obtain the arcs. unfortunately for me, i work in home decor, and have to wait for the actual pub date like most of the world.

(this shall be heretofore known as the purple edition of my impatience posts. also, it is an egmont usa edition. and a dec 22, 09 edition. the subject matters could not be more different.)

the dark divine
bree despain
pub date: dec 22, 09
  • from bree's (yes, we're on a first name basis!) website:

Grace Divine, daughter of the local pastor, always knew something terrible happened the night Daniel Kalbi disappeared—the night she found her brother Jude collapsed on the porch, covered in blood. But she has no idea what a truly monstrous secret that night really held. And when Daniel returns three years later, Grace can no longer deny her attraction to him, despite promising Jude she’ll stay away.

As Grace gets closer to Daniel, her actions stir the ancient evil Daniel unleashed that horrific night. Grace must discover the truth behind Jude and Daniel's dark secret . . . and the cure that can save the ones she loves. But she may have to lay down the ultimate sacrifice to do it—her soul.

  • you can read a sample chapter here.
  • this book takes place in minnesota, which automatically makes it ten kinds of awesome.

scones and sensibility
lindsay eland
pub date: also dec 22, 2009
  • from lindsay's (we're on a first name basis too) website:

Polly Madassa is convinced she was born for a more romantic time. A time when Elizabeth Bennet and Anne of Green Gables walked along the moors and beaches of the beautiful, wild land. A time when a distinguished gentleman called upon a lady of quality, and true love was born in the locked eyes of two young lovers.

    But alas, she was not.

This however does not stop our young heroine from finding romance wherever she can conjure it up. So while Polly is burdened with the summer job of delivering baked goods from her parents bakery (how delightfully quaint!) to the people in her small beach town, she finds a way to force...um...encourage romance to blossom. She is determined to bring lovers, young and old, together...whether they want to be or not.
  • this is quite possibly one of the greatest covers i have ever seen. i am not even kidding. i love it. not only do i love it, i loooove it. look at it in all its detailed glory here. i have spent longer than i'd care to admit searching the interwebs trying to find who designed it. i don't know what i'd do with this information, except mentally give credit where it is due.
  • the story just sounds so...charming. you know? anne of green gables is the best. after reading it, my then best friend and i started our own story club and deeply longed to be orphans. i'm interested to know how polly pays homage to the indelible anne shirley.
